Truly an amazing 2000's death metal masterpiece. Their album ICP is fast, abrasive and unpredictable. And no disrespect to either band, Its a matter of taste and I simply don't care for them.Ī band that is often overlooked by some for obscure reasons. Bands like Lykathea Aflame and Cephalic Carnage are why I got out of death metal eventually. (not my band either, I certainly wouldn't name my band "Anal Vomit.)īlasting fast riffs, filthy production, catchy and genuinely brutal- this is why I got into death metal originally. This is a track from Anal Vomit, an example of a modern death metal band who do it right in my opinion:
There have been some pretty terrible bands passed off on here by their members as "The most brutal this and that whatever." Psycroptic are far better than most of those people's bands however, I must admit.
I have seen people use this forum to promote their own band's material, so I apologize for that accusation. The other issue is the riffs aren't that catchy and there is no real flow to it, it simply lurches from one fast chromatic riff to a bunch of random breakdowns and back again- its the same issue I have with bands like Waking the Cadaver (and the "breeee ree reee" vocals remind me uncomfortably of that band as well.) Its fast and technical without being heavy, you could say. But it has the typical dry, clinical and lightweight production that many modern bands have, with none of the gritty, dirty, noisy bottom end that made Bolt Thrower and Incantation so special. Psycroptic are very technical and fast, this is true. I guess, to clarify, some of the reasons I tend to prefer far more pre-1996 death metal releases to modern ones can be found with the Psycroptic band band mentioned in the original post.
